India is going digital. ‘Faceless, Paperless, Cashless’ is the professed goal of the Digital India program. However, to a user who is new to the world of online transactions, it may seem like a pandora’s box. With the surge in digital transactions, cases of cyber fraud are also on the rise.

Since one cannot totally avoid digital transactions in this day and age, here are 5 simple tips that can help you in keeping your online transactions secure.

secure transactions via ePayLater

Avoid public Wi-Fi for online transactions

Public Wi-Fi is a boon for people who are always on the go. Be it restaurants, cafes or airport, internet connectivity is at our disposal. However, this ready availability that makes it a boon also makes it an easy target for hackers. If you are not careful, instead of being connected to the hotspot directly you might be communicating via the hacker’s system, thereby making your information vulnerable.

If you cannot totally avoid using public Wi-Fi, make sure you use a VPN or not use it for online transactions at all.

Never share your OTP with anyone

This one has been highlighted time and again! Never share your OTP or PIN with anyone, as this may lead to unauthorized use of your account. Your OTP is your last step of verification before your transaction is complete. It ensures that even if someone gets hold of your account details they will be checked at this stage.

An attacker after knowing your OTP can:

  • Use your account for fraudulent transactions
  • Know your spending pattern
  • Access your account information and use that to scam you
Stick to websites you trust

With online shopping becoming the norm these days we are constantly surrounded by cheaper and attractive products. However, be careful while submitting your payment information on any site that looks suspicious and only buy from reputable merchants that you already trust. Remember, if a website seems unsafe it probably is!

    Lookout for the secure padlock

Be careful of what websites you can or cannot trust. Never access your bank/payment website by clicking on a link present on some other site. Whatever banking/payment site you access, ensure that the link starts with ‘https‘. The ‘s‘ symbolizes a secure site. Also, make sure there is a lock symbol in the browser window frame whenever you visit a payment site. When you are done with your transactions, remember to log out of the site as an extra measure of precaution.

Avoid using direct bank transfers; use ePayLater instead

ePayLater is not just about credit but also about making your online transactions secure. Without any need of laboriously entering your sensitive bank/card details for every transaction, ePayLater’s “Buy Now, Pay Later” solution offers you a secure checkout experience. ePayLater removes the requirement for third parties such as payment gateways and banks at the point of transaction. This ensures increased transactional security for you!
